![]() This is easily one of my favorite games in the genre. If this sounds like an early commendation, that’s because it is. ![]() It’s a combination of space exploration, roguelite, crafting, and pushing your luck all to the styling of your favorite graphic novel. ![]() Void Bastards is unlike any first person shooter you’ve played. Seven years later enters Blue Manchu, the creators of the cult classic Card Hunters, and unbeknownst to them, they create one of my dream games. Why do they get to have the most fun? For the longest time I thought I was alone with my space pillaging fantasy. I was envious of those mantis aliens shredding my ship to pieces and destroying my best laid plans. Sure, I could send my pixel crew to wreak havoc on some unsuspecting vessels in my stead but I would just sit on the sidelines admiring from afar like the pompous and zealous captain I was cheering my team to victory while I sat comfortably at the sound of Wilhelm Screams coming through my intergalactic speakers. But one thing that FTL could never give me was the feeling of invading enemy ships myself. The brilliant combination of survival and exploration was too enthralling to put down. I was enamored by how expansive it felt and its nearly infinite replayability. The rogue-lite elements combined with random encounters and its addictive “one more go” game play loop left me obsessed for weeks. It worked pretty good! Though I think I’ll adjust that strategy to placing the Dark Pylon in a little less crowded area in future.Back in the days when FTL first came out, I remember getting lost within its novel take on space exploration. However, for the final Thrasher area I triggered Time Stop, warped a Dark Pylon into the center area and then Warped in a dozen DAs and possessed every air unit I could. Despite fighting an air comp I only built DTs and used them to snipe Void thrashers as my ally could do better handling waves. On the other hand I did play a Vorazun game yesterday where I built DAs on Void Thrashing with Double Edge active as P3. Also, Corsair/Oracle tech is pricey so prefer to avoid building a Dark Shrine at all when building up that army (though can add it in late game just to grab a few capital units). I’m not a fan of Dark Archons generally as they are a sponge for enemy fire (especially abilities like Yamato), are so bulky they crowd each other out (especially when trying to use Possession) and aren’t cloaked so don’t benefit from Emergency Recall or Strike from the Shadows most of the time. Confusion is pretty much the only way to effectively clear air.Ĭould definitely use a few Dark Archon alongside before and after I have a sizable air army. So low damage, high attack rate units like Corsairs and Void Rays basically don’t do damage outside lvl 8 black holes. Though you can get lucky if you land a good confusion and the units attack it.Īlso, as an aside, the damage reduction is before enemy armour. But you aren’t killing them all that fast, either. (Dark Templar’s void stasis as well, but it’ll take 3 casts and at least 30 seconds to kill each BC the enemy has, for example, which is not worthwhile at all)Įffectively, if you have a strong Centurion force, ground hybrid will rarely kill anything. Big reason is confusion and stasis are the only effects that hit air units. I’d say definitely wait until at least Dark Archons, ideally lvl 9 for the full energy upgrade, but lvl 5 is enough imo. As well, the damage over time is the same as a regular storm, so large units and hybrid are very slow to kill. It’s important to note abilities can’t kill, you still need something to land the final hit, so stasis is still pretty garbage until lvl 12. Vorazun’s P2 is a strange beast, it’s both really good and really bad.
